Overview
Grey High School has a rich cricketing tradition dating back to the first game in 1861. Many great cricketers have since started there cricketing careers at the Grey. The legendary Pollock brothers, Athol McKinnon, Spook Hanley, Dave Callaghan and Johan Botha are just a few of the many Old Grey’s who have gone onto play cricket at the highest level. Graeme Pollock, Grey High’s legendary cricketer, became South Africa’s “Cricketer of the millennium”. Grey High has also been the nursery for South African Cricket Presidents in Joe Pamensky and Geoff Dakin, who played such a big role in the unification of South African cricket.
We continue to pride ourselves in achieving a balance between mass participation and excellence. We are proud to have 18 teams participating in the EP School's Leagues and many of our top players gaining selection for Provincial and National teams. Grey has produced the most South African Schools players since unification. We have three current scholars, Brad Dolley, David White and Colin Ackermann, are all currently in the National U17 squad of 25 players, who regularly attend National Hi Performance camps.
Currently we have three Old Greys making their mark Internationally. Johan Botha is in the current South African one day squad and has also played Test cricket. Both Rusty Theron (2003) and Wayne Parnell (2007) will be making the South African A team debuts against Sri Lanka A. Wayne has an incredible 2008, since leaving School last year. He captained the U19 World Cup team to the final in Malaysia. He then was the leading wicket taker in the SA Emerging team that toured Australia and is now making his SA “A” team debut. Johan, Rusty and Wayne are all contracted to the Warriors.
