Overview

EGD is offered as a technical subject in the FET phase and is the medium of communication used by engineers and architects in the design and production of
goods, processes, services and systems. In this subject learners are expected to communicate effectively using verbal, written, visual, graphical and
mathematical construction skills as applied to the fields of manufacturing, engineering, technology and architecture. Being a technical subject, EGD is all about
the application of knowledge in the form of drawings. A comprehensive knowledge of Orthographic and Isometric drawings as taught in Engineering Drawing in
Grades 8 and 9, as well as a solid background in Science and Mathematics is therefore essential to ensure a successful transition into EGD.

Tests and Forms of Assessment

Drawings tests will be done in the 1ST term (2 tests) and in the 3RD term (2 tests).

Drawing exams will be done at the end of the 2ND and 4TH term with Gr.12 students also doing a Preparatory exam at the end of the 3RD term.

All EGD students will do one Practical Assessment Task (PAT), in the form of a design-project, per year.

All Course drawings (homework) will count towards the term-mark/year-mark.

Facilities

The EGD room is equipped with drawing desks as well as a number of networked computers for the use of EGD learners when working on their PAT’s. AutoCAD is also installed on the computers allowing learners to become familiar with the program.

Homework

Homework in the form of drawings will be given regularly (everyday) and it is therefore mandatory for students to have their own set of drawing equipment.
