President’s Award
The President’s Award itself was founded in 1983 under the banner of the Gold Shield Award. In 1994 it was re-launched as the President’s Award with Mr Nelson Mandela as its Patron-in-Chief. The fundamental aim of the programme is to empower young people from all walks of life to believe in themselves, to develop new skills, to keep physically fit, to be of service to others and to challenge themselves. The President’s Award offers a holistic, non-formal, non-sexist, non-competitive educational programme to young South Africans between the ages of 14 and 25.
