Overview
isiXhosa is an African Language belonging to the Nguni group of African languages. It includes a general study of language, a literature component covering poetry, novels and short stories and emphasises effective communication. It is offered as a second language to mother-tongue speakers (Grades 8–12) and as a third language to non mother-tongue speakers (Grades 8-9).
isiXhosa is offered as two subjects:
isiXhosa Additional Language (Grades 8–12, instead of Afrikaans)
isiXhosa Second Additional Language (Grades 8 and 9, in addition to Afrikaans)
