Overview
Grey High School has a rich and powerful hockey history and continue the mission to produce exceptional hockey players as well as quality Grey men. Hockey at Grey has exploded over recent years, with Friday Night Lights pulling in large crowds whenever an opposition team rolls into town. The current coaching staff, led by 2004 Old Boy Andrew Beynon, still comprises of teachers with good pedigree but the coaching staff is also boosted by specialist coaches, with the likes of SA Hockey players such as Kevin Chree, David Reid-Ross and Clayton Saker involved. Grey High also maintains a strong link to Old Grey Hockey as the club side train at the schools' facilities and the school serve as a feeder for the Club.
Grey continues to produce the majority of this Provinces provincial players and have had a number of SA Schools reps selected of late. The Hibbert Shield has firmly cemented itself in the countries school calendars and was voted the best school boy hockey tournament in the country by Supersport Schools. Named after the Hibbert family that has done so much good in the hockey circles of Grey High, Eastern Province and South Africa. Covid made people think differently with travel being difficult, thus the Hockey Slam was born. The Slam was created as an internal event to ensure all our hockey players were playing but it has grown into a staple on the hockey calendar. Players get split up evenly and compete under various franchise banners. It has been a great addition to the program as players from all different levels of ability get to learn off each other and develop.
